J. Kenneth Barwick Sr.

EASTON - J. Kenneth Barwick Sr., of Easton, died on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at the Genesis Healthcare the Pines. He was 92. Born on Nov. 28, 1918, in Maryland, he was the son of the late John Milton and Ethel Rebecca Stewart Barwick. After graduating from Easton High School in 1936, he farmed with his father and later became involved in trucking with his brother. He served in the U.S. Army in European Theatre; receiving a bronze star, a Good Conduct Medal, and a European Theatre of Operation and Presidential Citation. Upon returning home, he returned back to work for his brother in trucking and in farming. Mr. Barwick worked for the McMahan Oil Company from 1964 until 1983; later retiring. He did, however, remain employed part-time at McMahan's and worked at Ed Callahan Farms. Mr. Barwick is survived by his two sons, J. Kenneth Barwick, Jr. (Sandra) of Cambridge, and Thomas A. Barwick (Betty) of Easton; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn (Kitty) Barwick, whom he married in Jan. 1941; a son, John Charles Barwick; two brothers, Milton and Stewart Barwick; two sisters, Virginia Hutchison and Dorothy Griffith; a grandson, J. Kenneth Barwick III; a great-granddaughter, Jennifer Lee Tolley; and a great-great-grandson, Kaleb Lednum. A funeral service will be held on today, Jan. 14, 2011, at St. Mark's United Methodist Church at 11 a.m., where friends may call one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Marks Debt Reduction Fund, 100 Peachblossom Rd, Easton, MD 21601; or to the Countryside Christian Church, 5333 Austin Road, Cambridge, MD 21613.
