J. Calvert Evans

VIENNA - J. Calvert Evans, 71, passed away at the Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge on Monday, Feb. 18, 2008.

He was born in Cambridge on May 10, 1936 and was a son of the late C. Calvert and Dorothy DeCecco Evans.

Mr. Evans graduated from Vienna High School in 1954. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 until 1957 and had served in Korea. As a young man he had worked at Delmarva Power & Light. He later worked in the family business, DeCecco Inc. Canning Co. until he retired in 1975.

He was a collector of nautical items and antiques, enjoyed cooking and was known for his flowers and his landscaping.

He was a member of the Vienna United Methodist Church and Choptank Lodge No. 138 A.F. & A.M.

He had been in failing health for the past six months and had been a patient at the Chesapeake Woods Center for a month.

Survivors include three cousins, J. Stephen Hurst and his wife, Faye Hurst of Vienna, James A. DeCecco and his wife, Christina DeCecco of Statesville, N..C and Nancy Startt Porter and her husband, Judge Porter of Easton.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Ann Brown.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Thomas Funeral Home P.A. in Cambridge with the Rev. Mary Ann Farnell officiating. Burial will take place at a later date at Dorchester Memorial Park.
