A fire Tuesday morning destroyed the historic St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Hebron, also known as Spring Hill Church.

Firefighters from the Hebron Volunteer Fire Department responded before 11:30 a.m. and remained on the scene for hours. They were there at press time Tuesday. It wasn’t yet known if anyone was injured.

The Hebron fire department was assisted by most fire companies in the area, including Salisbury, Mardela, Sharptown, Pittsville and Vienna, according to a fire fighter at the Salisbury Fire Department. He said flames were through the roof when firefighters arrived and the frame building eventually collapsed.

A fire marshal was called to investigate and determine the cause.

The church marked its 240th anniversary last fall and the building was on the National Register of Historic Places.
