About 200 people are expected to participate at Hero Day on Saturday, where they’ll enjoy activities and music in a patriotic atmosphere of appreciation for veterans and those who hold them dear.

Held at Headquarters Live, Hero Day, planned for 7:30 to 10:30 a.m., is the creation of four local residents, all with military affiliation, who wanted to “bring our civilian and veteran community members together for a day of physical fitness, community building, awareness and appreciation,” said Alison Pulcher, coordinator.

This year’s third annual event will feature a children’s race, 5K, dog walk, military vehicles and activities for little ones provided by Bundles of Joy Learning Center.

Presentation of colors will be by Seaford Young Marines.

Sgt. 1st Class Michael Mena of the U.S. Army will sing The National Anthem and Mayor Jake Day will speak.

Radio station 99.9-FM will provide music.

Pulcher started Hero Day in 2014 with Day, Chris Eccleston and Steve Mizell.

“There is an activity and interest for all ages. We have added a Kids’ Fun Run this year,” Pulcher said.

“This event is an impactful way to bridge the veteran-civilian divide. Every year we see the outpouring of love and support this community has for those that serve it. It is a truly special day,” she said.

There is a registration fee of $25 to participate in the 5K or Dog Walk and participants will receive a T-shirt. There is a $5 registration fee for the Kids’ Race, which also includes a shirt.

Proceeds will benefit Operation We Care and America's Vet Dogs. There is no charge to attend for those who aren’t racing and the public is welcome.
