CAMBRIDGE - Helen Sylvia Gannon, 79, died at her residence in Cambridge Friday, Nov. 23, 2007.

Mrs. Gannon was born Aug. 18, 1928, in Bethlehem, Pa. She was the daughter of late Charles Louis Pospeshill and Mary Barbara Holecheck Pospeshill.

For several years, she worked at Continental Can in Hurlock, and then owned and operated Gannon's Cleaners. She later worked in the family business as a bookkeeper at Hurlock Lumber Co. After the closing of the lumber company, she was employed by H & M Transport Co.

Mrs. Gannon was a former member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church and after moving to Cambridge joined St. Mary's Refuge of Sinners. She was also a charger member of Hurlock American Legion Post No. 243 Ladies Auxiliary in Hurlock where she served as the auxiliary's first president.

Mrs. Gannon is survived by one son, William E. "Bill" Gannon of Cambridge and his wife, Barbara; one daughter, Sylvia Cheesman of Cambridge and her husband, Mike; six grandchildren, Robert Bennett of Falling Waters, W.Va., Keith and Carson Gannon of Cambridge, Samantha Russo of Cambridge, Scott and Katie Cheesman of Cambridge; one sister, Agnes Fuchs of Dobson, NC, and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, William E. Gannon Sr. who died Sept. 15, 1994, and two sisters, Angelina Thomas and Mary E. Biskach.

The family will receive friends 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 p.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Secretary. The Rev. Anthony Greco and Rev. Bruce Byrolly will be the celebrants. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Robert Bennett, Jimmy Rash, Jeff Biskach, Leo Russ, Louis Biskach and Jackie Fuchs will be pallbearers.

Donations may be made in memory of Mrs. Gannon to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802.
