DOVER, Del. - Harry D. McGinnes, 86, passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at Mallard Bay Nursing Home in Cambridge. Harry was living with his son, Jerry, daughter-in-law Debr and grandchildren, Tabetha Marie and Jerry Allen Jr. in Cambridge.
He was born Aug. 14, 1920, in Somerset, Pa., to the late Harry and Linnie Sanner McGinnes and was a life member of the Dover Elks, American Legion and the VFW.
He was a Purple Heart recipient serving as a U.S. Marine, wounded in Iwo Jima during World War II. Mr. McGinnes was employed by James Julian Construction and after retiring, worked for Trader Funeral Home in Dover.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Susan Jones McGinnes, and sister, Florence Griesbach.
Mr. McGinnes is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ida Virginia McGinnes of Dover, Del.; two sons, Harry David McGinnes Jr. of Crestview, Fla., and Jerry Allen McGinnes of Cambridge; four daughters, Harriett Rench of Dover, Del., Florence Eckeard of Kenton, Del., Jane Fierstein of Huntington, and Sandra Burr of Keysville, Va.; stepsons, Albert and Richard Fierstein of Maryland; 18 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trader Funeral Home in Dover, Del. Burial will be at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Camden, Del.
Friends may call Monday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Trader Funeral Home.
