TRAPPE - Harriet Louise Washington, 83, passed away on Friday, June 8, 2007, at Memorial Hospital in Easton.
She was born May 10, 1924, the first of 14 children born to Josiah and Mary Chase. She grew up in Trappe and attended Robert Russa Moton High School, where she graduated on the principal"s list.
She moved to Baltimore, met, fell in love and married James A Washington Sr. on Dec. 19, 1948.
She and her husband joined the Berea Temple Seventh-day Adventist Church soon after her marriage. She became a faithful steward. Busy in several organization in the church, she worked assiduously to spread Bible truths. She became a Colporteur-Bible worker, sold many books and gave countless Bible studies to people she met along the way.
She is survived by her husband, James A. Washington Sr.; three children, Jacqueline Gibbs, Stephanie Diggs and James A Washington Jr.; five grandchildren, Everett A. Thomas, Leonard Diggs III, Yamese S. Diggs, Dominic L. Diggs Sr. and James A. Washington III; eight great-grandchildren; five sisters and five brothers; an uncle, Douglas Gibson; an aunt, Francis Barnes; and a number of other relatives and many friends.
Services will be held at noon on Saturday, at Scott"s United Methodist Church, 3748 Main St., Trappe, with a viewing one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow in Paradise Cemetery.
