Harold Huffington

Huffington, 89 Salisbury - Harold "Huff" Huffington died Friday, Dec. 19, 2014. Born in Baltimore on June 16, 1925, he was a decorated U.S. Marine. A veteran of World War II, he made three amphibious combat landings under heavy fire on the island of Tinian, Saipan, and the Marianas with the 2nd Marine Division. He was an AAA Championship Series race car driver and competed against Indianapolis 500 contestants on tracks throughout the East Coast. He retired as vice president of Avery Hall Insurance Agency in 1991. He was a longtime active member of Wicomico Presbyterian Church in Salisbury, where he served as Clerk of the Session for more than 30 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Marie Huffington. He is survived by his wife, Doris; his two daughters, Denise Zucchelli of Parsonsburg and Margaret Ellen Carte of Harrisonburg, Va.; his son, Michael Cook of Bolton, Mass.; and six grandchildren. A memorial service was held on Monday at Wicomico Presbyterian Church.Arrangements were in the care of Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury.
