A 21-year-old Salisbury man was shot to death while walking near Anne and Baker streets Monday morning, one day after a 17-year-old was killed by gunfire on North Salisbury Boulevard.

The shooting, around 11:30 a.m. Monday, took the life of Dommeir D. Deshields, 21, of the 700-block of Church Street, according to Maryland State Police.

Police said Deshields was approached by someone whose identity is still unknown and shot with a firearm that hasn’t yet been determined.

Salisbury Police said they responded to 911 calls reporting shots had been fired. They found Deshields lying in the street. He had sustained multiple wounds, police said.

He was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. His body was transported to the state Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy, to determine cause and manner of death, police said.

The murder is the third in Salisbury’s city limits this year, according to Salisbury Police Chief Barbara Duncan.

The first was May 17, when 20-year-old James Skinner was discovered dead in his home on Bryn Mawr Avenue. The second was in the early morning hours Sunday, when 17-year-old Rakim Lamont Russell was shot in a hotel parking lot.

On July 27, Lee Harcum was murdered in a watermelon field on the family farm in Mardela Springs, but that homicide was outside city limits, Duncan explained.

The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit is investigating Deshields’ death, assisted by the State Police Criminal Enforcement Division investigators, detectives, officers and deputies from the Salisbury Police Department and Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office, police said.

State Police crime scene technicians processed the shooting scene, police said.

Investigators interviewed witnesses and residents in the area and crime scene evidence was sent to the State Police Forensic Sciences Division crime laboratory for analysis, police said.
