
Greig W. Mitchell, 73
July 13, 1949 – February 9, 2023
SALISBURY - Greig passed in the company of family on February 9, 2023. He was born on July 13, 1949 in Pittsburgh, PA to his late parents, Mary and Jim Mitchell. Greig was the husband of Linda A. (Zabrowski) Mitchell for 51 years.
Greig attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he met his wife, Linda. He graduated in 1971 with his Bachelors in Education. Greig served on active duty with the US Army from 1971-1974 and continued his service in the Reserves and National Guard. He was selected to attend the US Army War College in Carlisle, PA. Greig received the Legion of Merit among other awards and retired from the National Guard as a Colonel in 2000.
Following his active service, Greig attended graduate school at the University of Pittsburgh and received his Master's degree in Public Administration. He worked in college administration for various institutions, including Salisbury University, until his retirement in 2009.
Greig was an active member of the Eastern Shore Sailing Association and served in various roles including Commodore. He was an active parishioner at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and served on the Finance Council, as a lector, and with the Knights of Columbus. Greig was a volunteer and Board Vice President with Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County. He volunteered in Coastal Hospice's We Honor Veterans program.
In addition to his wife, Linda, Greig is survived by his three daughters, Michelle (Corey) Dial, Deborah (fiancé, Paul Martinez) Murphy-Ahles, and Sarah Mitchell; grandchildren, Brook-Lynn Mitchell, Donald Murphy-Ahles, and Mila Dial; siblings, Roberta (Robert) Kozminski, Dana (Gale) Mitchell; sister-in-law, Joyce O'Hare; brother-in-law, Richard Zabrowski; and many other loving family members and friends.
Greig was preceded in death by his brother, James Mitchell.
A Memorial Service will take place on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. at Holloway Funeral Home, 501 Snow Hill Road, Salisbury, MD 21804. Family will receive guests 1-hour prior from 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, February 24, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 535 Riverside Drive, Salisbury, MD 21801.
