Green Hill Country Club will present Bluegrass on the Water, a community event with a picnic theme, bluegrass band and foods, on Saturday, Aug. 19.
“What we want to do is to draw the community, the people who are not aware that Green Hill is open to the public, and show them that it’s a fun place, a safe place, and that we’re not a bunch of stick-in-the-muds and old fogies,” said Green Hill’s Buz Carragher.
“We want to do this every year, so this is the first annual,” he said, adding there’s no charge to attend, but dinners will be sold.
“We’ll have a selection at a reasonable price, so they can get picnic foods,” Carragher said.
For $12, adults can buy a barbecued chicken breast, pulled pork or hamburger with coleslaw. The children’s menu includes hot dog, chicken tenders or macaroni and cheese for $6.
The event will begin at 3 p.m., with the music and food from 5 to 8 p.m.
The Salisbury Fire Boat and Water Rescue Team will give a demonstration and the skipjack Ida Mae will be on display. Carragher said he’s also trying to get a tugboat brought to Green Hill from Chesapeake Shipbuilders.
“It’s going to be a fun, family event. There will be activities for the kids. There will be a bouncy house, boat tours, pontoon boats. It’s a family oriented event to get the community involved,” Carragher said.
