SHARPTOWN - Gordon Sickmund died at his home on Feb. 13, 2018. Born in Baltimore, he grew up in Millville, N.J., and Salisbury. He attended Pinehurst Elementary School, Wicomico Senior High School in Salisbury and then graduated from Tennessee Military Institute in Sweetwater, Tenn. After high school graduation, he spent a summer working in the oil fields of Monroe, La., prior to attending the University of Maryland College Park. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in Vietnam for the Marines Medical Corps. He completed his Business Accounting Degree at College Park, where he also played rugby and participated in the Accounting Club. After graduation, his career extended over 45 years with Ringling Brothers, Maryland Plastics, Yale Sportswear and finally as a business owner of a Jackson Hewitt franchise in Cambridge. He was a member of the Sea Scouts in Salisbury and spent many adventurous times with his family on the Chesapeake Bay. He moved to Sharptown in 1977, where he served as a Commissioner, an Ambassador for the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce and was a lifetime member of the American Legion. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara; daughters Chandler Sickmund and Jennifer Sickmund Burrell; two grandchildren; a sister, Gail; and a brother, Ed. A celebration of life will be held Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018, from 1 to 4 p.m. at his home on High Street in Sharptown. Arrangements are in the care of the Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury.
