CAMBRIDGE - Goldie Mae Young, beloved daughter of the late James Sr. and Harriet Hopkins Young, was born in Salem, Md., on Oct. 1, 1915. She and her siblings were reared by their father, in Fork Neck, Md., after their mother passed when she was very young. Educated in the public schools of Dorchester County, Goldie lived in Baltimore many of her adult years. Her employment included working as a trained nurse's aide and at the sewing factory. Goldie was blessed to worship at Waters UM Church in Fork Neck, Md., during her days as a youth and again as a senior citizen. During her younger adult years, Goldie worshiped at Gillis Memorial Church in Baltimore. Goldie enjoyed spending time with her family. She was blessed to share with five generations during her ninety-six years. Before entering the nursing facility she enjoyed smoking a cigarette, humming a song and chewing gum, all at the same time. Goldie always carried her purse. She enjoyed quilting as a past time. At the Chesapeake Woods-Genesis Center in Cambridge, Goldie was blessed to receive good care and love since she was an Alzheimer's patient. Visitors to the facility often included Goldie in their shared time. Her words were not understandable, but Goldie enjoyed the company of others. She was known for her love of humming loudly. She leaves to cherish her memory many nieces, nephews and cousins, Goldie was preceded in death by her sister, Lillian Young Molock, and brothers, Clinton, James Jr., Herman, Harrison and Russell Young. Services were held on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011, 11 a.m. at Henry Funeral Home PA, 510 Washington St., Cambridge, with a viewing two hours prior. Interment was in Fork Neck Cemetery.
