CAMBRIDGE - Goldie M. Hackett Saunders Hemphill of East New Market, departed this life on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013 at Chesapeake Woods Nursing Center Cambridge. Born April 10, 1926 in Aireys, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Edison Pinder and Annie Hackett. Goldie was a graduate of Chester High School and was employed for 22 years as a Nurse for the Eastern Shore State Hospital. She was a member of Waugh Chapel United Methodist Church where she sang with the Angelic Choir. The later became a member of Christ United Methodist Church where she served as an Usher, Communion Steward, Financial Secretary, Treasurer, Senior Choir member, Kitchen and Homecoming Committee and the United Methodist Women. Her hobbies include crochet, puzzles, shopping for hats of which she had a very large hat collection and traveling. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John Hemphill; a brother, Carl Clash; three children, Beverly Saunders, Altamese Hackett and Sylvester Clash; and a grandson, Torenzo Hackett. She is survived by three children, Chauncey Saunders, Althea Saunders and Vernetta Hackett; grandchildren, Chauncey Saunders II, Moanaisha Saunders, Dion Saunders, George McCrae and Shannon Saunders; two great grandchildren, Torenzo Saunders and Dion Saunders II; two sisters, Dorine Johnson and Rosyln Carnegie (Henry); a niece, Candice Carnegie and a host of other relatives and friends. Services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013 1p.m. at Waugh Chapel United Methodist Church 425 High St., Cambridge with a viewing two hours prior. Interment Tuesday, Nov. 12th 11a.m. at the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery Hurlock, MD. Condolences sent to www.henryfuneralhomepa.com
