EDINBURG, Texas - Gloria Leah Phelps, 74, formerly of Preston, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007, in Edinburg Regional Hospital in Edinburg, Texas.
Born in Cambridge, Mrs. Phelps was the daughter of the late Ralph Murphy Sr. and Gladys Murphy. She was a graduate of Cambridge High School.
Mrs. Phelps was a bookkeeper, retiring in 1985. She loved gardening, bowling and was active in St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Denton and the United Methodist Women's Circle. In her later years she enjoyed traveling with her husband across the country. They had lived in Preston until 1988, when they moved to Texas.
Mrs. Phelps is survived by her husband of 54 years, Eugene V. Phelps of Edinburg, Texas; one daughter, Cheryl Voorhees and her husband, Dean, of Denton; one son, Larry Phelps of Bethlehem; one brother, Alton Murphy and his wife, Roberta, of Cambridge; six grandchildren: Eric and Stacy Voorhees of Denton, Jeff Voorhees of Denton, John Phelps, Tracy Phelps, Jimmy Phelps, all of Ridgely, and Laura Phelps of Eastonand seven great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one brother, Ralph Murphy Jr. and two sisters, Hilda Brannock and Betty Miller.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Samaritan House, 12 North Fifth St., Denton, MD 21629.
