JOPLIN, MO. - Glenn Robert Lake Sr., 79, formerly of Crisfield, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2007, at St. John's Medical Center after a lengthily illness.
Mr. Lake was born Nov. 9, 1927, to Virgil S. and Laura. L. Lake, also of Joplin. He lived and worked in Northern Virginia most of his life. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1945 and was a member of the 4th MAR-2-F, Melanesia Micronesia Orient, honorably discharged with the Good Service Button, Good Conduct Medal with the rank private. He was an expert rifle marksman and second-class swimmer. After leaving the service he moved to Washington, married and ultimately settled in Alexandria, Va. He was an accomplished artist; journeyman sign painter and silk screener. He also worked in the dairy industry through the years, specializing in the production and sale of ice cream and milk.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary B. Lake; his daughter, LeeAnn; and his beloved grand-daughter, Marlee Glynn Ann of Joplin; two brothers, Donald G. Lake of Carl Junction, and Howard D. Lake, of Joplin; one sister, Carolynn Lake, of Joplin; and a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. Lake was especially grateful for the loving care he received from his personal aides, Pamela Stanley and Teri Hall of Joplin.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Virgilee, a brother, John Lake and a son, Glenn Robert Lake Jr. of Arlington.
Memorial services were held Wednesday at the Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary. The Rev. Larry Six officiated.
