Gil was born on July 11, 1945, in Cambridge, the son of Emory Collins Sr. and Betty Ruark Collins. He graduated from Cambridge High School, class of 1963. He worked briefly for Caldwell Casting in Cambridge and E.I. Dupont in Seaford, Del., before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force. Gil served four years in the Air Force, including a tour in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force and returned to the Eastern Shore working for Dresser Industries in Salisbury as a draftsman. Gil then enlisted in the Army and retired after 22 years service in many countries around the world. He then worked for R.R. Gregory Construction as a construction supervisor. Gil is survived by his wife, Diane, whom he married on Oct. 26, 2001; two sons, Joey Collins and wife Mary of Colliers, W.Va., and Jody Collins in Easton, Md.; stepdaughter, Cindy Collins; three stepsons, William, Eric and Richard Arnicar; 14 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; two brothers, Glenn Collins and wife Peggy of Seaford, Del., and Kirk Collins and wife Debbie of Cambridge; Uncle Edgar and Aunt Rose Ruark of Church Creek, Md.; and two aunts, Florence Wanerus of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Clara Collins of Manchester, England. He was predeceased by his first wife, Patricia (Abbott) Collins; and a brother, Toby Collins. He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America and the VFW. Gil was an avid fan of spirit car racing and enjoyed traveling in his RV to various racetracks of the World of Outlaws circuit. His idol, without question, was Steve Kinser, a 20 time World of Outlaws Champion. Gil also enjoyed reading Tom Clancy novels. There will be no services.
