George W. Baker Jr.

FRUITLAND - George Wilbur Baker Jr. died Monday, Jan. 22, 2018, at his home. Born in Berlin, he was the son of the late George and Mary Elizabeth Davis Baker.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a paratrooper. After his service in the military, he attended trade school in Washington, D.C., learning Boiler Maintenance. During his lifetime, he held a multitude of jobs, some of which include Modern Cleaners, Betty Webster's Studio of Dance, Skateland, St. John's Church and the Wicomico County Board of Education, from which he retired in 1998. He helped to start the Fruitland Little League, where he was a coach for both the boys and girls.
He is survived by a daughter, Amy Baker Davis; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Elizabeth Gutherie Baker; a son, George Leroy Baker; a daughter, Sherry Lynn Mundy; and a grandson, Brian A. Mundy.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, at 11 a.m. at St. John's United Methodist in Fruitland. Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury.
