HURLOCK - George Andrew Murray Jr., 80, passed away suddenly on Tuesday Dec. 12, 2006 at Dorchester General Hospital, Cambridge.

He was born Jan. 2, 1926 in Salem, son of the late George and Vera Hopkins Murray.

George graduated from Frederick Douglas St. Clair High School, class of 1943. He started driving for Phillips Packing Co. hauling tomatoes and canned foods. He worked for Harper and Bateman, finishing his career hauling long distance for Todd Transport and later retired from Preston Trucking 151 with 16 years of service. After retiring he worked part-time for DCDC.

He was an active member of Hurlock United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and was President of the United Methodist Men and a member of the finance committee.

He loved watching baseball and basketball. His favorite teams were the Baltimore Orioles and Baltimore Ravens.

On Jan. 1, 1969, he married Annie E. Thomas and from that union a daughter was born.

Mr. Murray is survived by his wife, Annie; five daughters - Yolanda Murray of New Castle, Del., Edith (William) Cornish, Ethel Murray, Bernadette Murray and Jewell Camper all of Cambridge; three sons; Larry Murray of Florida, Andrew (Elsie) Anderson and Rudolph (Patricia) Sharp both of Cambridge; a stepson, Larry (Denise) Aldridge of Hurlock; two daughters-in-law, Helen Murray of Crisfield and Everee Johnson of Capital Heights; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a special niece, Lauretta Freeman of Worton; two godchildren; Deante and Lanell Cornish, both of Hurlock; sisters-in-law, Betty Murray of Bridgeville, Del., Mildred Murray, Vietta Allen, Velma (Elijah) Gibbs all of Hurlock, and Anna Thomas of Federalsburg; brothers-in-law, Henry Thomas of Hurlock, and Vincent (Mildred) Thomas of Odenton and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six sisters, Mary Louise, Ethel, Villa, Lena, Esther and Thelma; three brothers, Isadore, Hayward and Floyd; two sons, Dwight Johns and George A. Murray III and two nephews, Orville Chase and Harvey Murray.

Viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. Monday in Hurlock United Methodist Church 502 Main St., Hurlock. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Hurlock United Methodist Church where friends may view two hours prior. Burial will be in Petersburg Cemetery in Hurlock.
