ROSEVILLE, Calif. - Francis J. Woods Jr., 83, a ten year resident of Roseville, Calif., died peacefully on July 16, 2011. The son of Francis J. Woods, Sr. and Helen Langton Woods, he was born on March 20, 1928, in Locust Gap, Pa. In 1995 he was preceded in death by his wife of forty five years, Ruth Jeanette (Underkoffler) Woods also from Locust Gap, Pa.; and one sister, Mary Kennedy of Georgetown, Del. He is survived by his two sons, Francis J. Woods, III and wife Sheri of Roseville, Calif., Rick R. Woods Sr. and wife Jamie of Edgewater, Md.; one daughter, Joan Ellen Johnston of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two sisters, Peggy Humpf and Jeanne Kendall; and seven grandchildren, Kristin and Danielle Johnston, Richard R, Woods, Jr., James Woods, Melissa Warchild, and Nathan and Jared Harmon; and one great-grandchild, Cooper Warchild. "Woody" to his friends and "Panky" to those who knew him as he was growing up in "The Gap", Francis graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 1946 and entered the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. In 1950 he and his young family resided in Danville, Pa., where he was also a Volunteer Fire Fighter with the Mahoning Township East End Fire Department. In the summer of 1968 he moved his family to Bel Air, Md., to be closer to his job of 30 years with the Automatic Sprinkler Corp. After retiring in 1986 he moved with his wife to spend their final years together in Cambridge, Md., at their house on the bay. There they could fish and crab to their hearts content which they often did! In 1997, he moved to Bethany Beach, Del., and in 2001 moved to Annapolis, Md., for a brief period after which he moved to Roseville, California and resided there for his final 10 years. In all of his travels, Francis maintained his membership and activity with the Sprinkle Fitters Union #669, the American Legion, the Moose Lodge and the Elks Lodge. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 13, at 10 a.m., at Holy Family Catholic Church Chapel, 86 West Central Ave., Davidsonville, Md. Interment will be held on Monday, Aug. 15, at 11:30 a.m., at Dorchester Memorial Park, 5391 Aireys Rd., Cambridge, Md.
