SALISBURY - France Edward Smith died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018, at his home. Born in Salisbury, he was the son of the late Norman E. Smith and Mildred H. Smith.
He graduated from Wicomico High School and attended The University of Maryland College Park, where he graduated in 1951. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954 and then was employed at Swanson-Campbell Soup Co. and City Credit Co. He spent 32 years in the Investment Industry with Laird, Bissell & Meeds, Dean Witter Reynolds and Morgan Stanley, where he served as Branch Manager before retiring in 1997.
He was a past member of the Salisbury Maryland Rotary Club, serving as its president in 1968-1969. He was designated a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow in 1986. He attended Asbury United Methodist Church in Salisbury, where he served on the Board of Trustees, Administrative Board, Pastor Parish Relation Committee and the Finance Committee. He on the board of the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore and was awarded the Chairman's Award in 2006.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Mary Lou Burbage Smith, in 2005. He is survived by his second wife, Constance Cooper Smith, whom he married in 2006. He is also survived by his son, Bruce E. Smith; a daughter, Holly S. Foster; four grandchildren; his brother, William H. Smith; and several nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church in Salisbury. There will be a private burial.
Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury.
