CAMBRIDGE - Ernestine Magalene Cephas was born on May 8, 1932 to the late Willie K. Harris and Nellie Jackson Harris of Vienna, Maryland. She transitioned from earth to glory on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, at Dorchester General Hospital in Cambridge, Md. Ernestine was raised in a Christian home, where reverencing God, respecting yourself, and others (especially adults) was not an option, it was a must. At an early age, she experienced God in many aspects of her life, but it was not until she was a young adult, that she accepted Jesus as her personal savior. Ernestine was educated in the Dorchester County Public Schools, and she was a graduate of the class of 1949 of F.D. St. Clair High School, Cambridge, Md. Ernestine was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, where she served faithfully in several organizations. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, the Usher Board, which she looked forward to serving faithfully alongside her good friend, Martha Pinkett. She sang on both the Senior and Charge Choirs. She loved to sing, and you could tell that she loved it by the way she expressed herself. She loved servicing in her church. In addition to singing on the church choirs, Ernestine sang with her family group, "The Famileers." This group was comprised of Ernestine's sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews. Ernestine woked at Airpax Technology until retirement. In addition, she worked at John Wright Tomato factory, DeCecco Tomato factory, Bumble Bee Tuna factory, and Salisbury Hospital. Ernestine was an amazing, caring, loving, strong, stylish woman. She loved the Lord; she loved His people, and enjoyed helping others. On a daily basis, Ernestine enjoyed reading her bible and devotion books. You could call her on any given early morning, and she would say "I'm reading my bible, I'll call you back." She also took pleasure in working puzzles, especially word search puzzles. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting. She would experiment with different crocheting stitches making hats and scarves for everyone in the family and community who wanted one. She loved singing. Some of her favorite songs were "Lighthouse," "Sit at His Feet and Be Blessed," and "Take Me To the King." She loved making jewelry and she enjoyed dancing. One of favorite line dances was the "Electric Slide". She was a matriarch to her family, she was highly respected and the family looked to her for support and advice. Preceding her in death were her son, Theodore Cephas, Jr.; her grandson, Dishawn Burbage; and her siblings, Glendola, Russell, Alfreda, Willie, William, Loretta and Velma. She leaves to mourn her loss, her precious husband of 54 years, Theodore Cephas, Sr.; her daughters, Carla Harris of Salisbury, Md., Altamese (Emery) Burbage of Middletown, Del.; seven grandchildren, Angel, Taishika, Trevor (Denise), Tyren, Ashley, Emory , Jr. and Crystal; 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Natalie Evans of Philadelphia, Pa., Delores Molock of Fork Neck, Md. and Floretta (Isaac) White of Sharptown, Md.; five sisters-in-law, Margaret Harris of Seaford, Del., and Betty Harris of Mardela Springs, Md.; Shirley Butler of Fort Washington, Md., Shelby Jean (Jesse) of Baltimore, Md., Jeanette Cephas of Yonkers, N.Y.; two brothers-in-law, Elton Cephas of Fork Neck, Md. and WeeJay (Edith) Cephas of New Castle, Del.; one goddaughter, Tynekia Pinkett; several adopted daughters, Gloria Jews of Annapolis, Md., Brenda (George) Cephas of Cambridge, Md., Libby (Chris) Nagel of Salem, Md., and Rev. Yvonne Penn of Cambridge, Md.; and a adopted son, Vernon Rideout of Vienna, Md.; several nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. Viewing will be Friday, Feb. 15, 2013 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church, 4902 Old Route 50, Vienna, MD 21869. The funeral service will be 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013 at Wesley United Methodist Church.
