Ernest R. 'Whitey' Jones Jr., 90
CAMBRIDGE - Ernest R. "Whitey" Jones Jr., passed away on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, in Dorchester General Hospital. He was 90. He was born in Cambridge on Feb. 5, 1918, and was a son of the late Ernest R. and Maggie Jones. Mr. Jones graduated from Cambridge High School. He served in the United States Army during World War II. On Aug. 8, 1958, he married the former Cecile Winona Sullivan. She passed away on July 6, 1999. He worked for the Maryland State Unemployment Office as a Supervisor. Mr. Jones was an avid golfer. He was a member of the Cambridge Country Club, Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW, and a life member of American Legion Post 91. He is survived by a stepson, Charles S. "Wigs" Brohawn Sr. and wife Doris of Cambridge; a step-grandson, Charles S. "Wigs" Brohawn Jr. and wife Pamela of Woolford; step-granddaughter, Charlene Burton and husband Greg of Cambridge; three step-great-grandchildren, M. Troy Brohawn, G. Shane Burton, and Justin S. Burton; one step-great-great-grandchild, Ridge Brohawn; and extended family, Billy Dayton and Jeff Dayton. A graveside service was held on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008 at 11 a.m. at East New Market Cemetery, with Rev. Jay A. Hurley officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to the Grace United Methodist Church, 501 Race St., Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
