CAMBRIDGE - Elnora L. Knauer, 98, passed away on Friday, March 23, 2007, at her home.

She was born at Hawkeye Place in East New Market on Feb. 7, 1909, and was a daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Celet Harrington McWilliams.

Mrs. Knauer attended school in East New Market and Hurlock until the age of 15 and went to work at the Secretary Shirt Factory until she married Ervin C. Knauer Sr. on Dec. 21, 1926, who passed away on April 3, 1987. She worked alongside her husband, a farmer until their retirement in 1966. Mrs. Knauer was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ.

She is survived by a daughter Carolyn J. Knauer of Los Angeles, Calif.; two sons Irvin C. Knauer Jr. of Trappe and Franklin A. Knauer of Bucktown; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Irvin C. Knauer III; a great-grandson, John Windsor; her sisters, Hilda Jane Cloud, Marguarite Gadow, Nettie M. Kennedy and Christina Figurski; her brothers, Lee F. McWilliams, Wilbur H. McWilliams and Woodrow H. McWilliams.

Graveside services will be private with the Rev. Robert Hawkins officiating.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Immanuel United Church of Christ, 5401 White Hall Road, Cambridge, MD 21613.

Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
