HURLOCK - Elmer Martin "Marty" Harper, Jr., 77, died Monday, April 27, 2015 at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born July 31, 1937, the first son of the late Elmer Martin Harper, Sr. and Helen Bell Harper. Mr. Harper attended public schools in Dorchester County and Florida. As a young man he worked for his father at Harper and Bateman Pickle Factory in Hurlock. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1954 and served for four years. He worked most of his life as an electrician and a beekeeper. He was an avid hunter and trapper and enjoyed traveling to Mississippi to spend time with his close friend, Hank Chapman. He was a member of the Shriners, Masons, VFW, and American Legion. Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Mae Harper; sister-in-law, Sylvia Harper; niece Beverly Wright; Diana Moxey and additional cousins. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Philip Lee Harper and Percy James Harper. Services will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Hurlock Volunteer Fire Department, P. O. Box 178, Hurlock MD 21643.
