Ellen Louise Meredith

CHESTERTOWN - Ellen Louise Meredith, of Chestertown, died on Tuesday, Sept., 14, 2010 at Easton Memorial Hospital, Easton. She was 85 years old. Born on April 9, 1925, in Cambridge, she was the daughter of the late George Otho Smith and Ruth Madeline Hastings Smith. Ellen graduated from Cambridge High School in 1943. She then married Donald L. Meredith on Oct. 12, 1945. Ellen and Donald moved to Chestertown in 1955. After she divorced, she was employed for many years at Colonial Jewelers. Ellen loved to read the newspaper and watch TV, especially the Orioles games. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, George Hastings Smith. Ellen is survived by a son, Darryl O. Meredith and his wife Ruth of Grasonville; a daughter, Donna Hayman and her husband Steve of Chestertown; three granddaughters, two grandsons, and six great-grandchildren. Burial will be 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010, at Dorchester Memorial Park, Cambridge. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to The American Cancer Society, 92 Read's Way - Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720.
