Elizabeth Simpkins, 78

MT. VERNON - Elizabeth "Libbie" Simpkins, 78, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

Born in Washington on Oct. 27, 1929, she was a daughter of the late John C. Gates and Pearl G. Gates. Her husband, Thomas S. Simpkins, former attorney for Somerset County, died in 1989.

She is survived by one daughter, Rebecca Boston and husband, Sam, of Princess Anne; two sons, Kirk G. Simpkins and wife, Rochelle, of Mt. Vernon and Rex D. Simpkins and his wife, Bridgett, of Eden; grandchildren Dana Boston, Jessica Boston, Kyle Simpkins, Thomas Simpkins, Rachel Simpkins and Emma Simpkins; a stepgrandson, Kevin Scott Marshall; a sister, Ruth Glasser of New York; three brothers, James Gates of Florida, Melvin Gates of Virginia and John C. Gates of Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Patrick Gates, who died in 1999.

A graveside service was held Dec. 30 at Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery in Mt. Vernon with Father Ray Weisman officiating.

Contributions may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund, c/o Lori Laird, 31889 Wildwood Drive, Princess Anne, Md. 21853. Arrangements were handled by Hinman Funeral Home in Princess Anne.
