'Lonnie' Ward, 93
Eleanor Katherine "Lonnie" Ward of Arnold, formerly of Crisfield, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 1, 2021. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii on March 28, 1928, she was the daughter of James G. Chiappetta and Judith C. Perry.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy G. Ward; son, Glenn L. Ward; grandson, David O. Ward; two sisters, Irene Kapoi and Mildred Fowers; and four brothers, George Chiappetta, Albert Chiappetta, Harold Chiappetta, and Michael Chiappetta.
Lonnie spent many years traveling with her husband Bill throughout his Naval career before retiring to Epping Forest (in Annapolis) and later to Crisfield, Maryland. She was the consummate Navy wife and volunteer, always making new friends with each change of duty station and deciding how to best serve her community. She will be remembered for her love of God, family, friends, gardening, and tennis. She was especially proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She adored them and they adored her in return.
She is survived by her daughters, Jean Ward-Smith (Craig) of White Stone, Virginia, and Judy Ward Callahan (Kevin) of Arnold, Maryland; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; siblings, Dori Stringfellow and Patrick Eskildsen; sisters-in-law, Nell Bennett and Marie Chiappetta; and a loving extended family.
A celebration of Lonnie's life will be held at a safer time in the future. If desired, in lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake in her memory.
