Edward Douglas Dean, 76

BALTIMORE - Edward Douglas Dean, son of the late Goldie Rufus Dean and Vermont Banks Dean, departed this life on Monday, May 11, 2009, in the University of Maryland Hospital Center, Baltimore. He was 76. He was educated in the Dorchester county public schools graduating from F.D. St. Clair High School. He was employed at the Phillips Packing company in Cambridge, before joining the U.S. Army. He served in the Korean War receiving an honorable discharge. He earned a National Defense Service Medal, UN Service Medal, Korean Service Ribbon and a Good Conduct Medal. After the army he moved to Baltimore, where he found employment at the Bethlehem Steel Company retiring in 1995, after 30 years.. Edward married Carrie Foster in April 1962 in Baltimore, where they made their home together and raised their family. Of this union, two daughters were born, Saundra Michele and Monica Yvette. He was preceded in death by his brother, Rufus "Goose" Dean. He is survived by his wife, Carrie Foster Dean of 47 years; three daughters, Saundra Michelle Dean Fritz (Troy), Monica Yvette Dean Hall, and Angela Green (Wendell); six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, all of Baltimore; one sister, Mildred Dean Henry of Cambridge; and several nephews, nieces, cousins and many friends. A viewing will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at the Vaughn Greene Funeral Home, 4905 York Road, Baltimore. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at First Baptist Church, 525 N. Caroline St., Baltimore. A wake will be 10 a.m. before the funeral. The interment will follow at the Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery, 11501 Garrison Forest Road, Owings Mills.
