VIENNA - Edna Cole Wongus, 91, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007 at her home.

She was born Jan. 4, 1916, daughter of the late Charlie Davis and Ida Cole. She was married to James T. Wongus, who preceded her in death.

"Mom" had been the leader of a fifth generation. She was a member of the Wallace Temple Church in Rhodesdale.

She received her education in Dorchester County and worked at Harper and Bateman for numerous years, along with raising her family and many more she took as her own.

Her hobbies included attending church, singing, family gatherings and traveling.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary Wongus Coleman of Baltimore, Dorothy Kitty Adams of Hurlock, Roberta Bert Wongus-Coleman (Ernest) of Vienna, Floretta Wongus-Austin of Delaware and a special granddaughter she raised, Melinda Wongus of Hurlock; Roger P.J. Wongus (Barbara) of Baltimore, Lorenzo Wongus of Cambridge and Terry Reesie Wongus of Vienna. She is also survived by 24 grandchildren; 85 great-grandchildren and 95 great-great-grandchildren; twosisters, Cordie Hopkins and Anna Rideout, both of Cambridge; brother-in-law, Daniel Wongus of Cambridge, Edward Ross of Baltimore; sister-in-laws, Geneva Davis, Dorothy Wongus and Anna Wongus, all of Hurlock and Dorothy Baynard (Albert) of Denton and a daughter-in-law, Gloria Jones Wongus of Cambridge.

A viewing was held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Bennie Smith Funeral home in Hurlock. A final viewing will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday ata the Hurlock United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Clorinda White officiating. Burial will follow at the Wallace Temple Church in Rhodesdale.
