Dot Dunnock Matthews
CAMBRIDGE - Dorothy Marie Todd Dunnock "Dot" Matthews, 79, died on Valentine's Day, Wednesday morning, Feb. 14, 2007, at Mallard Bay Care Center.
Born on Sept. 4, 1927, in Cambridge, she was the daughter of the late Charles Burke Todd and Lizzie Jones Todd.
Mrs. Matthews was a graduate of Cambridge High School, Class of 1944.
On June 26, 1951, she married Carl Emmett Dunnock Jr. They worked together for 30 years, as they owned and operated Dunnock's Grocery in Cambridge. Mr. Dunnock died on July 17, 1984.
On Nov. 14, 1987, she married Richard M. Matthews. Mr. Matthews died on July 5, 1993.
Mrs. Matthews had also worked at R. Fox of Cambridge.
Mrs. Matthews was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Cambridge.
Surviving are two children- Deena Messick and her husband, Herbert and C. Emmett Dunnock and his wife, Connie, all of Cambridge; three stepchildren - Susan Holder of Inwood, W.Va., Valerie Goff of Oxford, England and Richard Matthews Jr. of Cambridge; four grandchildren -Carl Hudson Messick, Jennifer Messick, Carl Emmett Dunnock IV, Chelsea Dunnock; four stepgrandchildren -Michaela Goff, Linden Goff, Lauren Holder, Jennifer Willey; great-grandchild - Brayden Harrison Messick; four sisters - Mary Ann Foxwell formerly of Crapo and presently of Cambridge, Betty Jean Jones of Salem, Isabel Phillips of Salem, Patricia Hurley of East New Market; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Faye and Vernon Sellers, Ginny and Sewell Matthews and Mary Matthews, caregivers Penny Carpenter, Betty Paul and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husbands, were three sisters, Josephine Brinsfield, Frances Wrightson, Elizabeth "Bea" Lyons and two brothers, Insley Todd and Charles Todd.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m., at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, P.A. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Sunday, at the funeral home with the Rev. Kevin English officiating. Burial will held privately on Monday at Dorchester Memorial Park.
