CRISFIELD - Dorothy G. Tyler was called home to live with the Angels on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2006, from McCready Memorial Hospital in Crisfield. She was 89.
Born Aug. 13, 1917 at Ewell, Smith Island, she was the daughter of the late John Tawes Tyler and Ella Dorothy Evans Tyler. The love of her life, Lloyd S. Tyler, Jr., to whom she was married for 51 years, died Nov. 6, 1987.
She was a faithful member of the Immanuel United Methodist Church where she was in the Pollyanna Sunday School Class, Circle No. 4, and was a former Mother of the Year. Dorothy loved listening to music, especially southern gospel, Christmas music, and patriotic songs. She loved her God, her church, and her family. A wonderful homemaker, she enjoyed baking her famous orange, pineapple, and chocolate Smith Island cakes. Her hobbies were knitting, crocheting her pineapple-patterned afghans, playing piano, and gardening. There were always stray cats around that she would feed and give shelter to in bad weather. In recent years, she enjoyed going to dinner with her family. Dorothy was loved by everyone who met her because of her kind and gentle nature.
Surviving is a son, Lloyd S. Tyler, III and wife Jolene, and a daughter, Mae Crockett and husband, Jack, all of Crisfield. Her grandchildren, whom she loved and cherished, are Peter Lloyd Tyler and wife, Teresa, Maria Wilke, Lourdes "Louie" Massey and husband, Will, Sterling "Stacey" Clough, Jr. and wife Mimer, Michael James Clough and wife, Lori, Anita Mikula Smith and husband, Jeff, Lloyd "Skip" Tyler, IV and wife, Andi-Kay, and Olivia Grace Tyler. There are numerous great-grandchildren, stepgrandchildren, stepgreat-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, O. Cranston Tyler, daughter-in-law, Lourdes Tyler, daughter, A. Jeanette Mikula, son-in-law, Francis P. Mikula, and brothers, Norman T. Tyler and John "Nig" Tyler.
Funeral services were held on Nov. 28, 2006 at 2 p.m. at the Immanuel Church. The Pastor Bill Davis, Pastor Bill S. Wilson and Patsy Maroon officiated. Burial was in Sunnyridge Memorial Park.
