CAMBRIDGE - Donald R. Wongus Sr. was born into this world of Yahweh on March 6, 1954, the 4th child of Mrs. Alamae M. Wongus and the late Daniel E. Wongus Sr. in Cambridge. He lived in Washington, D.C., before making his move to Atlanta, Ga., in 1976 to be united with his soon to be wife, Elder Rolanda H. Wongus. This loving union lasted through his transition to immortality on Thursday, July 15, 2010. He was employed in the restaurant industry for several years. In 1982, he became a laborer and member of The Laborers International Union of North America. His dedication to the Union and leadership skills was noted and he soon moved up to the position of Business Manager for Local 438, now Local 515 where he worked until he succumbed. Bro. Wongus was introduced to the Gospel of the Kingdom in 1976 and has been a faithful member of the Assembly of Divine Reality, Inc. Atlanta Branch. During his tenure he was a member of the choir and worked dutifully as a member of the kitchen crew for many years and supported many other activities as needed by the school. He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 33 years, Elder Rolanda Henry Wongus; a daughter, Chloe A. Bilal (Shahid) of Rex, Ga.; two sons, Vanzago D. Johnson (Angela) of Washington, D.C., and Donald R. Wongus II of Decatur, Ga.; a loving mother, Mrs. Alamae M. Wongus of Cambridge; three sisters, Patricia Artis (Isaac) of Greenville, N.C., Linda Schley of Washington, D.C. and Brenda W. Davis (Frederick) of Cambridge; two brothers, Daniel Wongus Jr. and Harold Wongus both of Cambridge; a dear mother in-law, Mrs. Virginia Henry Askins of Cambridge; grandchildren, Diamond Davis, Raven Johnson, Vanzago Johnson II, Jordan Wongus and Jihan Bilal; one uncle, Mr. Paul Marchbanks; one aunt, Mrs. Lone Marchbanks; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives, friends and the family of the Assembly. Funeral services were held in Decatur, Ga., on July 24th. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, 11 a.m., at Waugh Chapel UM, Church 425 High St., Cambridge.
