The Delmarva Shorebirds have set the lineup of speakers for the team's 17th Annual Hot Stove Banquet, which will be held at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center on Thursday, Jan. 25, from 6 to 9 p.m.
The headliner of the event will be Orioles' relief pitcher, Mychal Givens, who will do a question and answer session.
Givens spent parts of four seasons with the Shorebirds from 2010 to 2014 as he transitioned from a shortstop to a pitcher. He was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the second round of the 2009 MLB draft out of H.B. Plant High School in Tampa, Fla.
In 2017, Givens went 8-1 for the Orioles with a 2.75 ERA in 78.2 innings pitched. Givens also pitched for Team USA en route to their championship of the 2017 World Baseball Classic.
Kent Qualls, Orioles Director of Minor League Operations, will also be speaking at the Shorebirds' Hot Stove Banquet and will focus on the Baltimore Orioles' Minor League system and the development of the players that go through the Orioles' system on their way to Baltimore.
Pat Filippone, President of 7th Inning Stretch, the group that owns the Delmarva Shorebirds, the Stockton Ports of the California League, and the Everett Aquasox of the Northwest League will speak on the ownership group, the importance of the support from the local community, and the future of the Delmarva Shorebirds.
Chris Bitters, General Manager of your Delmarva Shorebirds, will touch on the upgrades being made to Arthur W. Perdue Stadium, plans for this upcoming season, as well as future upgrades.
Also, in attendance to meet and greet with fans will be Gary Kendall, Ryan Minor, and Buck Britton. Kendall, Minor, and Britton all have coaching ties to the Delmarva Shorebirds.
"We are really excited to welcome back Mychal Givens to speak at this year's Hot Stove Banquet. It'll be a great night of fun, food, and fellowship while putting Shorebirds baseball back in the minds of the Delmarva community," said Bitters.
Tickets to the event can be purchased in tables of eight for $280 or on an individual basis for $38 each. All tickets must be purchased in advance, and availability is limited. Doors will open at 6 p.m. with the program beginning at 7 p.m.
Attendees will also have the chance to participate in a silent auction and raffle of sports memorabilia to benefit the Shorebirds Fly Together Fund and United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore. Numerous items from professional and minor league franchises including the Baltimore Orioles will be up for grabs.
