Exelon honored Delmarva Power executive John Allen for his community volunteer work at the company’s recent Energy for the Community Volunteer Awards Luncheon in Washington, D.C.

During the event, Exelon also announced $10,000 in charitable contributions to each local nonprofit that the award winners support in Delaware and Maryland to amplify their hard work.

“Our charitable contributions and volunteerism help improve the quality of life for our customers and local communities,” said Dave Velazquez, President and CEO, Pepco Holdings, which includes Delmarva Power. “This year’s award winners are shining examples of selflessness, kindness and passion, and the work we do as a company to power a cleaner and brighter future for our customers and communities.”

Allen, a region Vice President and Manager of External Affairs in Delmarva Power’s Bay Regional Office in Salisbury, was recognized for his work with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Eastern Shore, which provides children facing adversity in the region with a strong, one-to-one relationship that will change their lives for the better.

Allen has had a big impact at Big Brothers Big Sister. In fact, according to the organization’s leadership, it might not even exist today if not for his efforts and contributions.

He has volunteered with the organization for 12 years, serving on the Board of Directors, establishing partnerships for the organization across the region, launching its annual golf tournament fundraiser, and conducting workshops for young men in the region.

In 2017, Delmarva Power contributed more than $1.3 million to local nonprofits, while its employees volunteered more than 11,300 hours to assist hundreds of organizations throughout Delaware and Maryland. Together, employees at Delmarva Power and the Exelon family of companies volunteered more than 210,000 hours with a variety of nonprofit organizations in 2017.
