Delmarva Power has purchased the recently closed Standard Register production facility in the Northwood Industrial Park for $2.75 million.

The 114,000-square-foot complex on 8 acres was among the very first to occupy the park in the mid-1970s. It served as a landmark facility for Burroughs Corp. and has served as a Standard Register printing facility for many years.

Sperry Van Ness marketed the building and executed the sale.

“While the closure of an industrial facility can put a strain on a regional economy, I was pleased that we were able to secure a buyer and transfer the property not long after production ceased,” said broker John McClellan. “I always viewed this facility as one of the best looking and well-kept facilities in the park.”

McClellan, working together with Henry Hanna, represented Standard Register in the transaction. Matt Drew of AWB Engineers assisted in evaluating the facility and helping devise the best plan whereby the buyer can put it to use.

David Lucas, electric maintenance manager with Delmarva Power, said the facility will be put to immediate use.

“Our various electric service reliability projects in this area have brought about a need to expand our warehouse capabilities and we believe this particular facility will provide us with the much-needed extra space," he said.
