Della Marie Walker, 88
Della Marie Walker transitioned to be with her Lord and savior on Sunday, July 24, 2022. She was surrounded by her family as she transitioned.
She was born on August 18, 1933, in Dorchester County Maryland. She was the daughter of the late Issac and Evelyn Jones, also from Dorchester County, Maryland. She was united in holy matrimony in November 1976 to the late David Walker from Winston Salem North Carolina.
Mrs. Della Walker or Mrs. Walker as she was affectionately called, was educated in the public school system of Dorchester County, Maryland. She worked as a seamstress at Rob Roy Sewing Factory in Cambridge, Maryland. She graduated from Nursing School at Cambridge Maryland Hospital and worked there for many years before moving to Baltimore. She served as an LPN and retired after 30 years of service at Harbor Hospital in Cherry Hill.
Della accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and savior at an early age at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Hawkeye, Maryland where many generations of her family worshipped. After moving to Baltimore, Maryland, she became a member at St. John Christian Community Church under the leadership of the late Tommie L. Jenkins, Sr. and remained there under the now Pastor Tommie L. Jenkins, Jr. She had a strong spiritual foundation and shared her wisdom and knowledge with whoever she came in contact with. She served as a Sunday School teacher, on various church committees and was a "Mother" at St. John CCC in Baltimore, Md.
Della was kindhearted and had a quiet generous spirit that touched many in her lifetime. She was a little fashionista who always "dressed to the tee" and was always color coordinated. Her outfits, shoes, jewelry, and bags matched perfectly. She had a love for yard sales and flea markets until the end. Whenever you asked her how she was doing she would say "I Feel Good" and dance to her favorite song by James Brown.
Preceding her in death were Evelyn Jones (mother), Issac Jones (father), David Walker (husband), her three sisters: Mary Jones (Cambridge, MD), Stella Nance (Philadelphia, PA), Annabelle Chester (Cambridge, MD), one brother: Cecil Camper (Thuriontown, MD), one grandson: Walter Green, III (Baltimore, MD) and one son: Anthony Jones (Cambridge, MD).
She leaves to cherish her loving memory, three daughters, Patsy Hatton (Manathius), Janice Jones (Linwood), Angie Woodrup (Steve). [Anthony Jones-deceased] (Evangeline), and one sister Lillian Jackson. She also had a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Her generational legacy includes 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren
She was our family matriarch and will be sorrowfully missed by her family, church family and many friends.
