TAYLORS ISLAND - David S. Sears, 89, passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2007, at Dorchester General Hospital in Cambridge.
He was born in Baltimore on Sept. 21, 1917 and was a son of the late Charles E. Sears and Sara Violet Kiefer.
Mr. Sears moved to Dorchester County in May 1926. As a young man Mr. Sears did some farming. Several years later he moved back to Baltimore and was working at Maryland Shipbuilding and Dry-dock. Mr. Sears served in the U.S. Army from May 1941 until September 1945 and again from 1947 until 1950. On Aug. 14, 194,8 he married Anita Horseman, who passed away on Sept. 26, 2000.
From 1956 until 1973, he worked for Page Communications as a maintenance man and he was a waterman at times. He was a charter member of the Taylors Island Volunteer Fire Co.
He is survived by a stepdaughter, Madaline Shenton of Cambridge; two step-grandchildren, Charles Lambdin Jr. and Jenny Mayhew; a step-great-granddaughter, Anina Joy Mayhew; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and his wife, Mr. Sears was preceded in death by a stepson, Charles Lambdin Sr.; a brother, Louis Sears; and two sisters, Isabelle Thomas and Catherine Stiles.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, at the Brick Churchyard in Taylors Island with the Rev. Robert G. Kirkley officiating. A visitation will be held on Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
