Changes to the Wicomico County Fair and Home Show this year mean the end to Pork in the Park, the two-day spring festival that has lost momentum in recent years.

This year, Wicomico County and the Wicomico Farm and Home Show staff will jointly present the Wicomico County Fair.

“We will make this one of the biggest highlights on the Eastern Shore,” County Executive Bob Culver said last week when the changes were announced. Culver said he is excited about the partnership and opportunity to share in the growth of the Fair.

Zach Evans, president of the Farm and Home Show and chairman of the Fair, said since the Farm and Home Show was rebranded as the Wicomico County Fair in 2015, attendance grew to more than 15,000 attendees.

Steve Miller, director of Wicomico County Recreation, Parks & Tourism, announced the end of Pork in the Park.

“We’re redirecting those resources now to fully invest in the County Fair to continue to make this bigger and better for the citizens of our community,” Miller said.

Evans said he is pleased to have the Recreation, Parks & Tourism Department’s resources and staff working with the fair, a nonprofit event with an all-volunteer board.

“They are experts in event planning. They do a great job with community events, so we are going to take advantage of that and we’re going to make a promise to continue providing comprehensive programming and building an event that will draw a large audience,” Evans said.

Next year, the fair will be Aug. 17 to 19 at WinterPlace Park. Admission will be free. See wicomicofair.com.
