Library ‘Holiday Vendor Bizarre’ Saturday

The Friends of Wicomico Public Library will host a “Holiday Vendor Bazaar” on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Downtown Library.

This is Holiday Shopping made easy: Shop from enthusiastic independent consultants, including Avon, Perfectly Posh, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Pampered Chef, Tupperware, Oragami Owl, Scentsy, Stampin’ Up, Tastefully Simple, Celebrating Home, Dove Chocolate Discoveries, Jamberry Nails, Vantel Pearls, Jewelry in Candles, Simply Said, Thirty-One Gifts and Paparazzi.

There will be children’s holiday crafts and light refreshments. Free admission and photos with Santa.

Critter Christmas & Craft Fair next two Saturdays

During each of the next two Saturdays. enjoy a day full of fun filled holiday activities; decorate your own gingerbread cookie, visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, make presents for your backyard friends, peruse the craft fair and make your own tree ornament.

The event hours are 1 to 4 p.m.

Watch live performances on the Zoo stage and listen to Christmas carols sung by area school children. Come and enjoy the Zoo as usual, some of the activities will involve a small fee. Proceeds from the event benefit the Salisbury Zoo's Education Department.

Whitehaven Bazaar set for Saturday, Sunday

Catch the Holiday Spirit this weekend at the 21st Annual Bazaar at the One-Room Schoolhouse, 2740 Church Street, in Historic Whitehaven.

The community is invited to honor the seven principles of Kwanzaa during Salisbury University’s annual Kwanzaa Celebration at 1 p.m., Saturday, in the Wicomico Room of the Guerrieri University Center.

Salisbury Symphony to perform Saturday

The Salisbury Symphony Orchestra, directed by Dr. Jeffrey Schoyen, performs a “Holiday Concert with a Gypsy Flair” 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Holloway Hall Auditorium.

Guest solo violinist Dr. Igor Kalnin is featured. Selections include music from Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker and Souvenir d’un Lieu Cher, as well as Brahms’ Hungarian Dances, Ravel’s “Tzigane” and Sarasate’s “Ziguenerweisen.”

The concert is part of SU’s “Music That Dances, Prances and Romances” Winter Music Festival.

A former member of Moscow’s Chamber Orchestra Kremlin, Kalnin is the concertmaster for the Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra and co-concertmaster of the University of Illinois’ Sinfonia de Camera.

Admission is $20, $15 for seniors age 60 and older, and $5 for non-SU students and SU faculty and staff. SU student ID holders receive one ticket free. Advance tickets are available online at www.SalisburySymphonyOrchestra.org and at the Information Desk of the Guerrieri University Center.

Adelines’ ‘A Christmas Tea & Harmony’ set for Sunday

The Ocean Bay Chorus of Sweet Adelines  will present "A Christmas Tea & Harmony" on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Langeler Educational Building of the Wicomico Presbyterian Church in  Salisbury.

Under the direction of Sharon Ehrisman, Ocean Bay will be  joined by the familiar Peninsulaires, and a parade of in-chapter quartets  performing contemporary Christmas selections as well as many traditional  favorites.

There will be a boundless buffet of complimentary home baked  desserts plus boxed extras for purchase.  An auction table will be  available for those who need an extra gift for the holidays.

A donation of $7 will get you in.

‘Museum Hours’ to cap fall film season Sunday

The Salisbury Film Society concludes its fall season with the drama “Museum Hours,” 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Fulton Hall 111, at Salisbury University.

The 2012 Austrian-American film written and directed by Jem Cohen is set in and around Vienna’s Kunsthistorisches Museum.

The film follows the unlikely friendship of museum guard Johan and enigmatic visitor Anne through the grand Kunsthistorisches Art Museum which becomes a mysterious crossroads that sparks explorations of their lives, the city, and the ways in which works of art reflect and shape the world.

A group discussion follows the screening. The series is co-sponsored by the Salisbury Wicomico Arts Council (SWAC) and SU’s Charles R. and Martha N. Fulton School of Liberal Arts. Tickets are $9, $8 for SWAC members, free for college and university students with ID.

Nature enthusiasts encouraged to join local birders

The Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art, Salisbury University, invites birders and nature enthusiasts of all levels to join local birders, Ward Museum staff, and SU students and faculty to collect data on local migrating bird populations and submit that data into the Cornell Lab of Ornithology's eBird citizen science program every Tuesday.

eBird provides the opportunity to collect real data for real scientific purposes. The need for this data is particularly great on the lower Eastern Shore of Maryland, where numerous birds live, yet limited eBird data is collected.

eBird Tuesdays is free and does not require registration, the event starts in the lobby of the museum every Tuesday at 9 a.m. Occasionally, events are canceled due to holidays, check the education calendar on www.wardmuseum.org for a full schedule.
