Clarence W. Johnson Jr., 77 CAMBRIDGE - Clarence W. Johnson Jr., of Cambridge, passed away at the Dorchester General Hospital, Cambridge on Monday, Aug. 4, 2008. He was 77. He was born in Baltimore on Aug. 30, 1930, and was a son of the late Clarence William and Debbie Price Johnson Sr. Clarence graduated from Cambridge High School, and served in the U.S. Army from Sept. 7, 1948 until he received an Honorable Discharge on May 10, 1952. While serving in the Army he had served in Korea and had received a Presidential Unit Citation (Korean), Army of Occupation Medal (Japan), United Nations Service Medal Meritorious Unit and a Commendation Korean Service Medal with 5 Bronze Service Stars. Some years ago Clarence had worked on a dredge boat and later at Coldwater Seafood. For a number of years he and his wife, Anna Louise Johnson, operated a produce stand on Court Lane. She passed away on Dec. 13, 2005. For many years he enjoyed fishing, watching baseball and riding around in the country. Clarence was a member of Dorchester Post 91 American Legion as well as Choptank Memorial Post 7460 V.F.W. He had been a patient at the Mallard Bay Care Center for a few days had been a patient at Dorchester General Hospital for several weeks when he passed away on Monday. In addition to his wife and parents, Clarence was preceded in death by a brother, Hobart H. Johnson. He is survived include two step-daughters, Mary L. Hughes of Linkwood and Bonita Elzey of Cambridge; three step-grandchildren, Rodney Webb III, Scott Lewis and Teresa Waller; several cousins; and one niece, Tina Newman of Cambridge. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery near Hurlock with Michael Baker officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 91, Cambridge, MD 21613; or to the American Cancer Society, c/o Mrs. Doris Weber, 5163 Maple Dam Road, Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are being handled by the Thomas Funeral Home, Cambridge.
