Salisbury Police have released names of those arrested for shoplifting from June 9 to June 15. They are:

Sverre William Baker, 27, of Laurel; Walter Richardson, 27, of Seaford; Terrell Thomas Chapman, 25, of Salisbury; Whittney Blake Epps, 29, of Salisbury; Felix Carson Rounds, 27, of Annapolis; Danielle Lizara Gibbs, 26, of Georgetown; Trevend Guy Redd, 50, of Salisbury; Cecilia Justine Briddell, 52, of Pocomoke City; a male juvenile of Salisbury; a female juvenile of Sykesville, Md.; and Travis Jerome Hollowell, 23, of Salisbury.

Woman sentenced in oxycodone case

A 36-year-old Salisbury woman was convicted of possession with intent to distribute oxycodone and sentenced to six years in jail.

Loretta Phillips, 36, was sentenced June 16 by Circuit Court. The original sentence was 15 years in jail with all but six years suspended, according to press release issued by the Wicomico County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Charges stemmed from Phillips’ arrest on Dec. 4, 2013, when she was stopped by Maryland State Police for a traffic violation.

Police found oxycodone in 15-milligram and 30-milligram amounts and $371 concealed in her purse, according to the press release.

Police said further investigation revealed her cell phone contained numerous text messages pertaining to the illegal sale of oxycodone.

State’s Attorney Matthew A. Maciarello stated abuse of heroin and semi-synthetic opioids, such as oxycodone, “impacts the quality of life of the citizens of Wicomico County so substantially that illegal distribution of these substances will be vigorously investigated and prosecuted.”

He commended Maryland State Police and the Wicomico County Narcotics Task Force and thanked Safe Streets Prosecutor Richard J. Brueckner Jr., who prosecuted the case.

Tyaskin man dies in boat incident

A 70-year-old Tyaskin man collapsed and died Sunday after he retrieved his drifting boat on Wetipquin Creek off the Nanticoke River, according to Maryland Natural Resources Police spokeswoman Candy Thomson.

The man was swimming to the boat when he suffered some sort of medical emergency around 2:12 p.m., she said. His wife called for help and held his head out of the water until emergency personnel arrived.

The man, whose name has not been released, was taken by ambulance to Peninsula Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, Thompson said.

House fire extinguished in Bivalve

Nobody was injured in an early morning fire in Bivalve on Tuesday.

The fire started at 5:35 a.m. at 3977 Oyster Shell Lane, Bivalve, in a vacant mobile home, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office.

The fire started in a rear bedroom and the cause is being investigated.

The mobile home is owned by Frank Hoge Jr.

Damage was estimated at $10,000 for the structure and $1,000 for contents, according to the fire marshal’s office.

Responding were the Westside, Hebron and Mardela fire departments and the blaze was under control in 45 minutes

Firearms report results in Hebron arrest

A 51-year-old Hebron resident was in the Wicomico County Detention Center on $75,000 bail after being charged with first-degree assault and reckless endangerment, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Dolores Gravenor was charged June 14 after an incident on the 100 block of Downing Street in Hebron.

A deputy responded to a call of an assault with a firearm around 11 a.m. The deputy said two victims reported a woman left her house with a rifle and said, “If I don’t get no peace and quiet I’m going to shoot this gun up right now.”

The deputy was told the woman pointed the rifle toward the two victims.

The deputy asked the suspect if she had a rifle. She said she did not and invited the deputy to search the house.

The deputy said she then admitted to having a rifle and making threats and was arrested.
