SALISBURY – Salisbury Wicomico Arts Council (SWAC) is pleased to share an opportunity from partner and grant recipient St. Peter’s Church.
St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 115 St. Peters St, Salisbury, will offer a tuition-free , comprehensive, after-school music program, open to young people ages 7-18. No experience is necessary.
Students will receive a snack upon arrival.
The training choir is for students in grades 2-3 and older students who are new to singing. Rehearsals will be on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
The performance choir is for students in grade 4 and up. Rehearsals will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 to 5:30 p.m. The performance choir will sing at the Sunday 10:30 a.m. service, and receive a small cash stipend for each service sung.
The choir school is a tuition-free choral program supported by the Episcopal Pro-Cathedral of St. Peter in Salisbury, Maryland.The choir school will use the "Voice for Life" Curriculum of the Royal School of Church Music in which singers gain vocal skills and musical understanding while learning classical music, both sacred and secular. The choir school is open to all regardless of faith - church membership is not required.
James Wallace was engaged as Director of Music at St. Peter's Church in August of 2023. He has extensive church and school experience, with nearly 30 years of high school teaching as a boarding school music director. Most recently, he served at an Episcopal boarding school, St. Mark's outside Boston, for ten years. He also has decades of experience working with children and youth in Episcopal churches, most recently at St. Mark's Church in Southborough, Massachusetts.Wallace holds the Bachelor of Music degree in church music and organ performance from Pacific Lutheran University, Tacoma, WA, and a master of music degree in church music from Westminster Choir College, Princeton, NJ. He also holds the Advanced Studies Certificate in Scoring for Motion Pictures and Television from the University of Southern California.
