VIENNA - Charlotte Louisa Lopus, 98, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2008 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Donald "Gene" Johnson of Vienna.
Born Jan. 29, 1910 in Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Charlotte Brockmanof Corry, Pa.
Several years after her marriage, she and her husband, Glen and their two daughters moved to Maryland. They lived in Hanover until their land was purchased to build BWI Airport. They then moved to Glen Burnie where their company, Arundel Crane Service was located.
Charlotte was a secretary for many years, first at the Census Bureau in Washington, D.C. and then at Fort Meade.
She joined and was very active with the Christian Science Church in Glen Burnie and remained a member until her passing.
Charlotte and Glen were often on the water as members and officers at Ventnor Yacht Club and Maryland Yacht Club. She enjoyed family, ceramics, reading and walking. She continued her daily hour of walking until just recently.
Her love of cows was a carry over from her youth when her job was to milk "Lavey" before she walked to school each morning. She had a good memory for songs, poems and the Bible and could recite long passages.
In addition to her daughter and son-in-law, she is survived by nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Martha Hulteen of Las Vegas; and son-in-law, Ed Sparrow of York, Pa.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Joan Kay Sparrow; six brothers and sisters, Bill, Bob and Earnest Brockman, May Kolendar, Betty Henry and Dot Bock.
At her request, services will be held at Kirkley-Ruddick Funeral Home and burial in Glen Haven Memorial Park, both in Glen burnie will be private.
In lieu of flowers, she requested donations be made to either Vienna United Methodist Church, c/o Mary Lee Bradshaw, P.O. Box 212, Vienna, MD 21869 or to Vienna Volunteer Fire Company, c/o Debbie Horseman, P.O. Box 5, Vienna, MD 21869.
Local arrangements are being handled by the Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market.
