DANVILLE, Ky. - Catherine J. (Davis) Wrape passed away peacefully on Feb. 11, 2011, at the Danville Center in Danville, where she had lived for a number of years. Her loving daughter, Ann Wrape Willis was by her side. Catherine was born in Oyster, Va., on March 11, 1923, the daughter of the late Jess Henry and Laura Davis. Her family moved to Crisfield, Md. when she was a little girl. As a teenager she worked at the His Nibs Sewing factory. In 1938 she married Jarvis B. Sterling and became a beloved member of his family for the rest of her life. He passed away in 1954. Eventually she remarried and had a son and daughter. They moved to Rockingham, N.C., where she raised the children. During this time, she operated a Day Care in her home and was deeply loved by the children she cared for, as well as their families. In later years, she made her home with her daughter and son-in-law in Louisiana, Texas and most recently, Kentucky. Wherever she was, Catherine became a friend to all she met and was loved for her kind, caring and giving ways. She was a petite woman but had a quiet strength that many of us would like to have. She had heartaches in her life that could have broken her spirit, but she lived her life, loving and caring for others without complaining. She kept her sense of humor and carried herself with dignity and grace. She had style and liked to keep up with the latest fashions and hair-dos (no old lady hair-dos for her!). Her children were the most important part of her life and she worked hard to give them what they needed. She was proud of them. When her son Charles passed away, she drew upon her inner strength and continued her journey here on Earth. Catherine didn't talk about religion much, but it was obvious that she had a special relationship with God. He was her strength, her grace, and the source of all the love that she gave so freely to all of us. When her grandson, Kelt, was born, he became the sunshine in her life, as only a grandchild can. Catherine is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Tim Willis; grandson, Kelt; all of Danville; brother, Robert Davis; and sister, Frances Sterling both of Crisfield, Md.; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Proceeding her in death were her parents, her son, Charles Wrape; brothers, Art, Jeff, James and Richard Davis; a baby brother; her sisters, Idella Lane and Lucille Linton; her mother-in-law, Gracie Sterling; and sisters-in-law, Measy (Ralph) Taylor and Pansy (Richard) Landon. Although Catherine had been away from Crisfield, Md. for a long time, she always thought of it as her home and the people here, her extended family. We love you, Aunt Catherine, and you will live on in our hearts forever. A memorial service was held on Feb. 15, 2011 at the home of Ann and Tim Willis.
