HURLOCK - Carolyn Hope Gates, 63, passed away at her home on Thursday, July 19, 2007.

She was born in Cambridge on Oct. 16, 1943 and was a daughter of the late William T. "Willie" and Ada Ruark Todd.

She attended schools in Cambridge. On Feb. 5, 1963 she was married to David A. Gates.

Mrs. Gates worked at Bogash and Perfect Garment Co. in Cambridge and also had worked at Hurlock Sportswear for 18 years. She later worked at Airpax which was later Egide for 23 years.

Mrs. Gates was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hurlock. She enjoyed reading, bicycling and traveling and had visited England three times. She also enjoyed going to gospel concerts as well as going to the beach.

Mrs. Gates had been in declining health since March.

Survivors include her husband, David A. Gates of Hurlock; one daughter, Tamara "Tammy" D. Gallagher and her husband, Patrick J. Gallagher of Chesapeake, Va.; one son, Richard A. Gates and his wife, Stephanie M. Gates of Dover; two grandsons, Andy Gallagher and Lee Gates; two granddaughters, Tiffany Hoffman and her husband, Danny Hoffman and Claire Gates; one great-grandson, Jacob, and several nieces.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne Todd and Ronnie Todd.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. Dr. C. Bruce Revel officiating. Burial will follow at Unity-Washington Cemetery. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Hurlock, 301 Poplar St., Hurlock, MD 21643.
