SALISBURY - Bruce Eric "Rick" Rychener died Monday, Dec. 14, 2020, at his home. Born in Toledo, Ohio, he was the son of the late Robert Rychener and Laurena Etta Baum Rychener.
He grew up in Tedrow, Ohio, and was a 1971 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, where he was a member of the Drum & Bugle Corps. He served two tours with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Conflict. He worked as a Surface Naval Engineer, building ships for the U.S. Navy, at the Pascagoula Shipyards in Mississippi. He also worked as a defense contractor and later managed his own kitchen and bathroom design company, CEA Associates in Salisbury. He was a past commander of the American Legion Post 64 and VFW Meuse Post 194 in Salisbury.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Coral Lee Reyer Rychener; his three daughters, Boni Jean Rychener of Silver Spring, Md., Beth Anne Townsend of Salisbury and Beki Lynn Bradford of Berlin; six grandchildren; a brother, Michael Rychener of Durham, N.C.; and sisters, Amy Stratton of Sidney, Ohio, and Trudy Wade of Ashley, Ohio. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jock Rychener.
A memorial service and military honors will be held Monday, June 14, 2021, at 2 p.m., at the U.S. Naval Academy Chapel and Columbarium in Annapolis. Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury.
