Brooke's Toy Closet fundraiser is this weekend

Posted

To raise money for Brooke’s Toy Closet at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, founded by the late Brooke Mulford, Vernon Powell Shoes on East Naylor Mill Road will donate a portion of this weekend’s sales.

Ten percent of sales made on Friday and Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., will also be used to research neuroblastoma at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and to help local families that have children who are fighting cancer.

Young Mulford died from the disease on June 12, 2017, after an eight-year battle. She was 12. She was diagnosed when she was 4.

In August 2014, when she was 9, Brooke, known for her upbeat attitude and perpetual smile that taught far-reaching lessons of faith and hope, cheerfully cut the ribbon at the Toy Closet. She wanted children in the hospital to receive something to cheer them.

Toys are given to youngsters who go to the emergency room or are in the hospital’s Pediatrics Unit.
