MILTON - Brenda Kay Martinek formerly of Elliott Island and Hurlock, died Thursday, March 29, 2018 at her residence. Born April 24, 1952 in Wilmington, she was the daughter of the late Delbert Olin Jensen and Dorothy Exma Thomas Jensen. She worked in advertising at the Daily Banner and Star Democrat and then United Insurance Company of America. While with United Insurance, she was a member of the President's Club and also earned trips to California and Hawaii. She was one of the original committee members to start what is now Elliott Island Volunteer Fire Company and was inducted into the Dorchester County Volunteer Firemen's Hall of Fame. She was past secretary of Eastern Shore Firemen's Association; past secretary of Maryland Firemen's Association of Delmarva and was a delegate to the Maryland State Firemen's Association. She is survived by two sons, John Kelly and wife Michelle of Milton and David A. Rubenstein of Wilmington; two grandsons, Luke Gagnon and Nathan Gagnon; two brothers, John Chris Jensen of Roxanna and Thomas W. Jensen of Newark; two sisters, Paula Pritchett of Newark and Cindy Smuzynski of Wilmington; one stepsister, Joyce Bailey of Wilmington; several nieces and nephews and her friend and former husband, Daniel D. Martinek of Elliott Island. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Delbert Olin Jensen, Jr. and a stepsister, Dr. Janet Egan. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 2:00p.m. at Elliott Island United Methodist Church in Elliott Island where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Pastor Ken Figgs and Rev. John Moore will officiate. Interment will follow in the Martinek Family Cemetery on Elliott Island. Donations in memory of Brenda may be made to Elliott Island Volunteer Fire Company, 2317 Elliott Island Road, Vienna MD 21869. Arrangements are in the care of Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market.
