CAMBRIDGE - Betty Della Hackett, 83, passed away on Monday, Oct. 31, 2007 in Reisterstown.

She was born April 25, 1924, daughter of the late Della Cottingham and Martin Harris.

Betty was educated in the public schools of Dorchester County and was a graduated of F. D. St. Clair High School, Class of 1941. She also was a graduate of Cortez Peters Business School.

She married the late Robert H. Hackett. Six daughters were born from that union, Sharon Hackett, Constance Hackett Thomas, Kathy Hackett Chan, Vickie Hackett Spearman, Wanda Hackett and Laurie Hackett Rideout.

Mrs. Hackett retired after many years of service from the Board of Education as a cafeteria worker. Her main focus was her family.

She joined church at a very early age. Mrs. Hackett was baptized at Zion Baptist Church. She later joined Waugh Chapel United Methodist Church. Mrs. Hackett was a dedicated member who worked with the Missionary Society, Usher Board, Communion Steward and prayer warriors.

Mrs. Hackett always loved music, playing the piano, Circle Four Bible Study group and in 1950 was a member of the Republican Voters League.

In addition to her daughters, she is survived by three sons-in-law, Alan Chan, Adrian Spearman and Charles Rideout Sr.; 12 grandchildren, Cristi Carruthers, Natasha Thomas, Kiara Hackett, Asia Spearman, Shamelle Hackett, Charles Rideout Jr., Sean Spearman, Brandon Rideout, Crystal Rideout, Adrian Rideout, Jalisa Rideout and Jenna Rideout; 11 great-grandchildren, Cyara Powell, Brandon Powell, Quarante' Powell, Jhe'rah Powell, Kajun Hackett, Zachary Carruthers, Anthony Carruthers, Quentin Evans, Malik Perry, Kayle Hackett and Alana Evans; a sister, Ruth Yancey and a number of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, at Waugh Chapel United Methodist Church, 429 High St., Cambridge. There will be no viewing. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The Henry Funeral Home, PA, is handling the arrangements.
